Curaçao's strategic geographic position relative to the United States of America and South America and its unique position within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Caribbean basin allows us to profile as a global center by forging strong business and collaborative ties in these regions.
Additionally, the Curaçao flight information region (TNCF) provides the potential to position Curaçao as the trendsetter not only in linking the aviation interests of North and South American continents, with critical Caribbean and Central America aviation interests, but also to pioneer in the Caribbean in all aviation related environmental activities in accordance with ICAO and UN system environmental protection policies and practices and the reduction of adverse environmental impact of civil aviation activities.
New aircraft technologies can have a major impact if they can be incorporated into the air transport system. Therefore, operations and infrastructure must be adapted to accommodate the new aircraft technologies and support new technologies and vehicles, these operational changes can themselves have a positive impact on sustainability.
For example, reducing energy consumption by strategically implement better air traffic management concepts and operational innovations that reduce fuel consumption on movement areas (any part on the aerodrome that is used for the surface movement of aircraft, including maneuvering area and aprons), flight distances, improving en-route efficiency, minimize separation standards, remove height restrictions, make better use of favorable weather patterns (e.g., tailwind) and enable and implement new operational concepts.
On the other hand, sustainable energy sources are essential to be climate neutral by 2050. In order to achieve the climate goals, on short term a massive upscaling of the use of biofuel is required.
And this is where Curaçao can play a key role and position itself as the pioneer in the Caribbean, enabling the availability of biofuel in the Caribbean. This requires a holistic approach, which considers factors such as climate impact, security of supply and social acceptance, technical performance, and cost-effectiveness (drop-in fuel feature).
The governments within the Dutch Kingdom, aviation service providers and the aviation community have committed themselves to support the aviation industry in achieving the target of net zero emissions by 2050.
Biofuel is recognized as a key element in meeting the aviation industry's ambitious emission reduction targets.
The aviation industry is making a bold effort to achieve carbon neutral emissions by 2050. That is why it is very important to be prepared for the growth of passenger air transport, cargo transport, as well as the increase in aviation emissions due to growth.
Mitigating these emissions is a huge challenge! Many alternatives to fossil jet fuel, such as hydrogen or electrification, will not be available to the aviation industry in the near future.
With diversification as a goal and considering the transition period to net-zero emissions, biofuel is the most viable alternative to replace fossil jet fuel. biofuel is a safe, proven replacement for fossil jet fuel. It is essential for the industry's transition to low-carbon activities. Biofuel is currently used by many leading commercial airlines.
The aviation community of Curaçao and the island as a whole have the capacity to create competitive advantage as an environmentally conscious aviation industry and nation.
Finally, with this article, PMC Global Aviation aims to make the world a better place through aviation, addressing the biggest challenges in sustainable development while minimizing negative impacts and enhancing positive impacts on people and the planet.
